The Leap

Soooo it’s been about 3 months since I’ve been unemployed. It has definitely been a roller coaster.

Let me rephrase that. Yes I quit my job but I don’t really consider myself unemployed. I’m an entrepreneur and I make money by creating content, hosting events, and other different types of creative side hustles.

I guess you can say I’m somewhat self-employed. But since it’s not consistent work I haven’t really become comfortable with that title. I told myself that when I started on this serious entrepreneurial journey I would be honest about what it takes to get where I’m going. And that means telling my readers that it is not easy and it’s not always a fun time. So when I say that it’s not consistent work I mean that every morning I wake up and hit the pavement (usually the internet pavement), emailing and pitching my brand and my skills to different networks of people/companies who can pay me. I do freelance writing, I create videos, ads, and many other types of content. In the midst of doing that I also have to create my own content for my own brand. My brand consists of ebooks, social media, YouTube, and my tv show. I don’t just wake up on a whim and go into this. I plan out my days weeks or sometimes a month in advance. If I didn’t plan it out in advance I would probably go crazy. Even with planning it out I still sometimes get overwhelmed because life just gets in the way of the schedule, but I’m learning how to manage it well. On top of all of that I’m a mom so I just never know how my day will go sometimes. In general, life is going very well. I love not having the restrictions that a traditional job places on our lives. I saw a quote from Beyoncé that really resonated with me:

I don’t like too much structure. I like to be free. I’m not alive unless I am creating something. I’m not happy if I’m not creating, if I’m not dreaming, if I’m not creating a dream and making it into something real. I’m not happy if I’m not improving, evolving, moving forward, inspiring, teaching, and learning.

That’s exactly how I feel. I love having the freedom to create and build my life the way I want it to be. Some days are SUPER HARD because no matter what, my bills are still due, and that pressure can get intense sometimes, but I still love it better than being chained to a desk all day. I have so much planned for myself, and I’m allowing myself to know that it won’t happen overnight. In the midst of designing my life, I also want to remain a great and present mom, and I think that this time of grinding and preparing is really molding me into what I see for myself. I wanted to discuss my vision for my brand so that I can give you guys a better understanding of what I do and what I’m trying to do. I’m giving this blog a fresh new makeover so that it will be easier to keep up with everything I have going on. So take this post as kind of a reintroduction of myself. To start off, I guess I should define myself for you. I call myself a Digital Storyteller. I like that title because I love to create content online in a way that is relatable. Everyone loves a good story, so that’s what I try to create in my content. I’ll give you a summary of my brand below:

This Blog: I used to have a lot of posts on here but once I changed my name to “Your BFF Stef” I deleted them all to start fresh. I debated on keeping this blog because I didn’t think I would have the time to keep it up. I’ve decided to keep it, but I won’t put pressure on myself to post daily. I will post at least once a week when I have something that doesn’t need to be on video. Things that are more personal to me and opinion based. I’ve decided to show love to more Black/Brown-Owned businesses around the city, and my reviews on them will go here. Send me some places to check out if you know any. 🙂

YouTube: YouTube is for my business tutorials. I teach people how to launch creative businesses like Clothing, Hair, and Cosmetics lines. You can check out those videos here. Be sure to subscribe! 🙂

Ebooks: My E-Books are similar to my YouTube tutorials but they come with bonus information like wholesale vendors, packaging companies, and other contact info for people who are seriously ready to launch their businesses. You can purchase one of my E-Books here: The Biz Hive

My TV Show: I have a TV show called Your BFF Stef and it currently airs on some of the local channels in NYC. It’s a News/Lifestyle show where I discuss hot topics, chat with my guest co-hosts, and give my opinion on different things. You can only watch it if you live in the area, but I’ll add a streaming link here as soon as it’s available.

Social Media: You can find me on Instagram by clicking here. I upload IG Stories almost daily. I also do a weekly segment on IGTV where I try different things for a day or more. For example: I tried being vegan for a few days. I will document my experiment on IGTV. It’s fun. I have a lot of different things I’m trying as time goes on.

So that’s me in a nutshell. I hope to see you guys around these different platforms. I chose the name Your BFF Stef because I want you guys to grow to trust my opinion like you do your real best friends. I’ll always be honest in my posts, and I’ll take a few for the team when it comes to trying new things. I’m looking forward to growing on this journey with you guys! 🙂
